Job Description

As an Office Assistant in Facilities Services, you keep the department running smoothly in all areas. From routine duties to impromptu projects, we rely on your flexibility and careful attention to detail, as well as your positive and helpful attitude, in fielding requests from all over campus. Office Assistants are the first point of contact for the department and sometimes also for the College, in person and on the phone. Each day is different, and you will respond to a wide range of questions and requests as they arise.

Tasks can include: answering and directing phone calls, emails, and in-person questions, distributing parking permits, issuing keys, managing van reservations, collecting and sorting mail, and other projects as assigned. Students with previous experience in this position may get the opportunity to train new student staff.

Job Requirements

Skills Acquired or Developed:

Working as an Office Assistant in the Facilities Services office, you will develop effective communication, active listening, and comfort with brainstorming solutions to time-sensitive issues as they arise. You will also become familiar with campus: where things are, how they work, and which team can make them happen.

Job Requirements:

  • Work study is required for this position.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Punctuality and dependability.
  • Experience and comfort with answering phones, and/or a willingness to learn.
  • Experience and/or interest in customer service.
  • Able to think on your feet and stay collected when time-sensitive issues arise.
  • Able to communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Curiosity about campus.

This is an in-person position with shifts M-F between 8am-4:30pm. The department coordinator makes the schedule each semester, based on availability of the entire student office team.
