Job Description

As a Grounds employee, you are part of the team that maintains campus grounds, including trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns, athletic fields, sidewalks, and parking lots. 

Tasks can include: mowing and seeding, trimming and pruning, planting and weeding, trash removal, outdoor event set up, snow shoveling, and preventative maintenance and service work. Each day is different, and work will be assigned by the full-time Grounds staff. Students with previous experience in this position may get the opportunity to train new student staff.

Skills Acquired or Developed:

As a Grounds employee, you will get experience working independently as well as in a team. Skills learned range from proper plant care and irrigation repairs, to paver installation and sports field maintenance. Every day brings the opportunity to try something new. You will learn how to prioritize your shift, efficiently schedule your daily tasks, and adapt to new challenges.

Job Requirements:

  • General knowledge of or interest in mechanics, gardening, and landscaping work.
  • Able to work outside in all types of weather.
  • Able to to lift/carry objects, at least 25 pounds, repeatedly.
  • Able to do physical work for extended periods of time.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Punctuality and dependability.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to drive a golf cart, preferred but not necessary. Training provided.
  • Employees are expected to work in a safe manner and follow applicable safe work practices.

This is an in-person position with shifts available M-F between 6:30am-3pm. Student staff set their schedule with the Grounds supervisor at the beginning of each semester. Priority given to students with work study award as part of their financial aid package.

 
Benefits

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
