Health Promotion Assistants are Macalester students with a passion for promoting comprehensive well-being on campus. HPAs collaborate with the professional staff to identify health and well-being needs of students and create theory-informed and evidence-based initiatives to address these demonstrated needs. This team will approach this work through the lenses of equity and intersectionality, specifically working to center folks who have been historically decentered in these conversations, including folks of all gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations, BIPOC students, international students, and students with disabilities. In addition, HPAs work to promote a culture of well-being at Macalester through education, programming, and sharing of resources. HPAs will also have opportunities to gain professional knowledge and skills that will continue to serve them beyond their time as a Macalester student. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Create and implement public health interventions with fellow HPAs and professional staff Support the dissemination of safer sex and harm reduction supplies across campus Serve on an advisory committee to inform campus-wide policy on health-related topics Develop, implement and evaluate health-related resource materials Establish and maintain regular communication with the professional staff of Health Promotion, fellow HPAs, and campus partners Collaborate with campus partners to strengthen and enrich resources for health and improve access at Macalester Opportunities for professional development, such as attending webinars, participating in trainings, serving on search committees and/or campus committee assignments Other duties as assigned
Skills Gained: Health Promotion Assistants will be trained in public health approaches including developing skills in using data and evidence to identify and address health and well-being needs. In addition, they will develop skills around evaluating the impact of these approaches. They will also gain valuable experience in communication and collaboration. Finally, they will have opportunities to practice facilitation skills, content creation of health-related resources (including social media), and experience professional development and learning opportunities. Commitments: Expected time commitment is at least 7 hours per week, with a maximum of 10 hours per week. Each person’s hours per week will vary based upon their work study award amount. Each team member will be required to participate in the following: Weekly HPA meetings on Tuesdays from 11:30am-12:45pm Two to four office hours each week, in which you will fulfill requests for supplies and work on HPA projects Pre-semester training from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm from Monday, August 25th - Friday, August 29th. Specific times are subject to change. Engage in a mid-semester check in with a member of the professional staff Engage in an end-of-semester performance review with a member of the professional staff to collaborate to set goals, and work toward continuous improvement

Pay: $15.97 per hour. Students may work as many hours as allowed within their financial aid award. |
