Job Description

The Macalester College Archives is looking for students interested in learning more about Macalester and archival collections work. Work includes tasks such as: conducting research on Mac history for research projects and requests (past examples include helping a student research the history of disability at Mac for their Honors Project, or finding historical demographic data on BIPOC students); scanning and digitizing materials from the collections; helping reach out to student organizations; promoting the archives to alumni; putting together displays of collections; assisting Archives staff with special projects and inventorying, rehousing, and organizing collections.  

Job Requirements
  • Work study is required for this position

  • must be highly organized and extremely detail-oriented;

  • must have good communication skills; 

  • must be able to handle fragile collection pieces (such as old photographs or documents) with care;

  • preferred: interest in working on projects relating to: research on BIPOC and diversity at Mac through time; research to help uncover untold stories, narratives, experiences, etc.; rehouse and organize photo and other collections; digitizing print materials and photos, and create/install displays or exhibits of archival collections

  • note: this position often involves lifting heavy boxes

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid.
