Job Description

The ITS Help Desk is seeking enthusiastic, friendly students to join our team as entry-level Help Desk Front Desk Consultants. Previous customer service, tutoring, or similar experience is especially valuable. Experience with technology is helpful, but not required; we'll happily teach you what you need to know. This is a great opportunity to assist members of the Macalester community while learning valuable job skills. This is primarily a customer service, rather than a purely technical job. 

The list of duties below applies primarily to on-campus work. There are no remote work opportunities

  • Provide a friendly, welcoming presence at the ITS Help Desk in the Humanities building, greeting walk-up visitors and responding to phone and email.
  • Ask questions and accurately record information to assist with problem resolution.
  • Research, consult, and follow instructions to resolve technical problems and perform basic technical tasks, such as: preparing new computers for delivery, removing spyware, installing printers, and answering general questions about IT services at Macalester.
  • Deliver or pick up supplies and equipment to/from offices and computer labs.
  • Participate in Help Desk training opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

 

  • Student Employment/ work study award is required for this position
  • Strong interest in and ability to interact with and assist others. Customer service, teaching, or similar experience is encouraged.
  • Experience using computers, especially Mac OS and/or Windows
  • Experience using common productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions, manage time effectively, and arrive to work on time.
  • Ability to work mostly daytime hours (8:00am-4:30pm), as well as some evening and/or weekend hours.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
