Job Description

Job Functions and/or Special Projects:

  • Assist Geology Department Faculty and Staff with sample preparation, method development, and maintenance of analytical and departmental equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous departmental jobs as needed.
  • Instruct users (faculty/students/outside users) on sample preparation and instrument techniques.

Skills Acquired or Developed on the Job:

  • A successful student employee will learn one or a variety of analytical and sample preparation techniques including scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and x-ray fluorescence.
  • Teaching skills.
  • Organizational skills.
Job Requirements
  • Geology major, minor or core, or have previous analytical laboratory experience.
  • Successful completion of GEOL 160 and/or 165 or equivalent science course.
  • Familiarity with Apple and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and preferably, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
