Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks Graders for the following Physics courses in Fall 2025:

  • PHYS-126 (Introductory Physics I) with Prof. Saki Khan
  • PHYS-130 (Science of Renewable Energy) with Prof. Jim Doyle. Up to 2 positions are available for this course
  • PHYS-226 (Principles of Physics I) with T.B.D. (contact Brian Adams). Up to 2 positions are available for this course
  • PHYS-331 (Modern Physics) with Prof. James Heyman
  • PHYS-443 (Electromagnetic Theory I) with T.B.D (contact Brian Adams).
  • PHYS-481 (Quantum Mechanics) with Prof. Saki Khan

Job functions, responsibilities and/or special projects will include:

  1. Grade homework assignments for the individual faculty member who is the instructor of the course.
  2. Set and meet deadlines agreeable to both you and the instructor for you to to pick up and drop off completed grading assignments.

 

Job Requirements

If you are interested in applying for a Grader position for one of these courses, please email the instructor of record for that course (see the email address links above), and c.c. Brian Adams to let them know of your interest, and for more information

  1. In general it is assumed that candidates must have completed physics coursework and prerequisites up to and including the course they wish to grade for. with a solid understanding of the material and grades of at least a A-.
  2. Must be able to establish clear grading criteria and expectations between you and the faculty member teaching the course.
  3. Must be reliable and able to work independently.

Hours per week will depend on which course you are grading for, but typically average about 4-6 hours/week.

By applying for a Grader position, the Physics and Astronomy department may contact the Title IX and Nondiscrimination Office to inquire about an applicant's disciplinary status with the college. Current or past policy violations do not automatically disqualify or exclude an applicant from this selection process. However, they may be taken into consideration.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
