Job Description

The Chief of Staff (CoS) is a paid staff position responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of MCSG, working behind-the-scenes to ensure that MCSG’s work is happening effectively and efficiently. The CoS’ primary responsibilities are to create the weekly LB agenda, attend weekly meetings, track attendance with Legislative Body (LB) members, and coordinate with the MCSG President, VP, and Advisor about other associated tasks. The CoS must be available for weekly LB meetings held on Thursdays from 12-1pm & weekly Executive Board (EB) meetings. 

The CoS’ weekly responsibilities are as follows:

  • Checking and responding to emails on the official MCSG email account in a timely manner

  • Writing and sending the weekly LB agenda at least 24 hours prior to the LB meeting

  • Attending both EB & LB meetings

  • Creating, overseeing, and updating official MCSG records (e.g., LB/Exec roster, campus committees, etc.)

  • Organizing and keeping track of LB members’ attendance based on the attendance policy in the Bylaws 

  • Managing the MCSG calendar and Google Drive

  • Using the CSLE PCard to order catering and other organizational needs

  • Managing Campus Committees in coordination with the MCSG President

  • Serving as on-site coordinator for MSCG events (e.g., Meet the SLT, Candidate’s Forum, etc.)

  • Coordinating with fellow MCSG staff (Secretary/Treasurer, Media and Outreach Coordinator)

  • Other duties as assigned by MCSG President, VP, and Advisor. 

Job Requirements

Prior experience with and knowledge or MCSG required and ability to attend Legislative Body meetings (weekly on Thursdays from 12:00-1:00) and Executive Board meetings in-person.

To succeed in this role, the CoS should possess organizational skills and a commitment to timeliness. They should be able to communicate effectively about the roles of MCSG committees and individuals, remain knowledgeable about MCSG updates, and feel comfortable working with large groups of people. Additionally, they should be a creative thinker and self-starter who is always looking for their next task to work on/help with.
