Job Description

Required Duty:

  • Set up, monitor, and clean up the weekly Geology/Physics Departmental Tea 
    • Make hot water and coffee, prep tea snacks, stock tea cart supplies, clean up dishes and cart
  • Requires availability from 2:15-4:15pm Wednesdays

Additional Tasks:

  • Assist department coordinator, faculty and staff with office maintenance, copying, and special projects
  • Errands on and off campus including mail pick up and delivery
  • Reliably complete the additional tasks assigned you on the daily job list
  • Special projects will be assigned based on student worker interest and abilities, such as social media and web updates, scanning slides, word processing and data entry, etc.
  • Set up and take down special events such as Geology Department BBQs 
  • Greet and respond to visitor inquiries

The ideal candidate will be available for three 2-hour shifts spread across three different days per week (i.e. M/W/F or T/W/TH), for a total of approximately 6 hours per week.  Wednesday afternoon shift time is non-negotiable, but other shifts can be schedule around student worker availability.

Job Requirements
  • Work study is required for this position. 
  • Availability on Wednesdays from 2:30-4:15 PM during weeks classes are in session - this is not negotiable.  Additional shifts can be schedules around your availability.  If you do not have Wednesday afternoons available, please do not apply.
  • Running Tea requires brewing coffee, washing fruit, popping popcorn, and washing a small number of dishes.  Prior experinece not necessary; training is provided.
  • Being reliable and on time for your shifts; tardiness and failing to show up for your shift is grounds for dismissal. 
  • Candidates must be responsible, respectful, and trustworthy.  
  • Expectations include being self-motivated, curious and interested in learning new skills. 
  • Advance notice required for absences and changes to schedule.
  • Schedule must coordinate with other office assistants and/or department coordinator to provide optimal coverage for the department.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
