The Newsletter Editor

 

Is responsible for the production and timeline of the Fall and Spring History and Classical Mediterranean and Middle East department newsletters, in collaboration with the department coordinator, including:

• planning and seeking content

• communicating with content contributors (faculty, staff, current students, alumni)

• graphic designing, editing, taking photos, and researching/writing articles

• strategic planning that produces one complete newsletter for each department, each semester

 

In addition, the newsletter editor will perform daily office tasks, when assigned and based on office needs and student availability. This may include: a) providing initial contact for Mac community and visitors by answering phones, greeting visitors, and making referrals to appropriate faculty or staff; b) picking up and delivering mail, and other errands on campus; c) provide general office support (scanning, data entry and organizing, projects and research) as needed. This position is 100% in-person; not hybrid. This is an entry level position.

 
Job Requirements

Qualifications and/or Special Skills Necessary to Perform the Duties of the Position:

1. Strong time-management, writing, and editorial skills

2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

3. Experience taking classes within Classics and/or History departments

4. Knowledge of or willingness to learn programs used in creating newsletters such as Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and Canva

5. Experience with layout and design is ideal

6. Ability to approach projects creatively

7. Preference given to student with work study award

8. Preference give to student familiar with deparment

 

Skills Acquired or Developed on the Job:

1. Further develop communication and promotion skills

2. Project management skills, including time management and participant outreach

3. Designing and creativity skills

4. Professional office experience

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid.
