Job Description

Student Staff members are ambassadors of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Your work and engagement in the Department affect how the campus perceives us.

Accelerated Portuguese Lab Instructors will:

 

Conduct twice-weekly lab sessions for students of PORT 111 (Accelerated Beginning Portuguese) and PORT 221 (Accelerated

Intermediate Portuguese),

Provide cultural information to students of Portuguese in a communicative and informal classroom environment; review

grammar concepts and vocabulary; encourage active participation in discussion and lab activities,

Meet once a week with course instructor,

Additional independent lab preparation is required,

Help course instructor develop materials and activities appropriate for the lab,

Hold one weekly office hour for consultation in the reading room,

Offer alternative lab hour for students with scheduling conflicts,

Keep a precise record of attendance and participation for each student,

Evaluate student performance,

Provide an inclusive, mindful, welcoming and open work environment,

Other functions as deemed appropriate.

 

Job Requirements

 

Reasonably proficient in all 4 Portuguese modalities (i.e. reading, writing, listening, and speaking)

Ability to work independently and take initiative,

Consistency, patience, reliability,

Friendly demeanor and positive attitude,

Computer skills,

Writing/editing ability,

Willingness to learn and accept responsibility,

Be open to feedback,

Punctuality.

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid.
