Please complete this application if you have already agreed to serve as a First Year Course Preceptor for a First Year Course being taught in Fall 2025. 

FYC Preceptors are active members of their FYC community and contribute to the transition and overall student success of Macalester's first year students. Preceptors will: 

1. Participate in Zoom training on August 25, 2025 (1-3pm CT)
2. Attend the first meeting of their FYC on August 26, 2025
3. Arrange specific responsibilities with their facutly, but will attend course meetings, hold office hours, and assist students with course content and assignments-- especially written work.
4. Help students develop basic writing skills appropriate for their FYC. This can include reading, commenting on student papers, meeting with students to discuess drafts, holding studey sessions, etc.
5. Serve as a role model and mentor as they assist FYC students in their transition to Macalester. This can include helping with time management techniques, identifying effective study strategies, connecting them to resources around campus, understanding course selection and registration, etc. 

Sick and Safe Time

• Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
• Sick and safe time is not paid out upon depature.
