Job Description

Admissions is looking to hire 4-6 students to work on-campus for the summer. This is a full-time position, with an expectation of about 40 hours per week.  Primary responsibilities each week will include conducting in-person campus tours, student panels, lunch with prospective students and their families, assisting with mailings and other office projects, participating in virtual outreach and engaging in office projects based on areas of interest and qualifications.

1.     Interacting with prospective students and families in a variety of ways, including:

    • Conducting hour-long (in-person) campus tours with groups of 4-12 people
    • Greeting visitors in the lobby area
    • Emailing correspondence to families before and after visits
    • Participating in virtual student panels
    • Conducting virtual tours
  1. Working on a wide variety of office projects and responsibilities including:
    • Assisting with large scale mailing projects
    • Various office tasks such as answering phones, making copies, running errands, maintaining publication inventory, filing, scanning, etc.
    • Working on various outreach efforts to prospective students
  2. Helping with various special special programs:
    • Minnesota Private Colleges Week and the Pre@Mac programs
    • Group Visits
  3. Special projects based on areas of interest/qualifications, which have included:
    • Online communications and social media 
    • International Admissions
    • Assisting with updates to our current campus tour
Job Requirements

Students should be comfortable with a variety of administrative projects. Your skills should include:

  • Strong sense of initiative, work ethic and follow-through on responsibilities
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Ability to work independently in a quiet environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team of students and staff members
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistently high standards
  • Willingness to enthusiastically pursue projects that require repetition
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Clear communication and the ability to ask questions when necessary

In addition to working on administrative office projects, Visit Ambassadors are expected to work directly with students/families visiting the college. Your skills should include:

  • Taking ownership of providing a positive campus visit experience by being welcoming, kind, respectful and inclusive to all guests
  • Outgoing personality and excellent presentation skills (usually groups of 8-12)
  • Desire to learn and share helpful information about Macalester and share thoughts on your own personal experiences
  • Professional attitude
  • Ability to foresee and then act to resolve emerging issues without the explicit direction of a supervisor

Note: This position is a summer long commitment that starts in May and goes through the end of the summer. Exceptions include taking unpaid vacation days and flexibility in regards to late summer athletics, RA and other fall semester job training, if applicable. If interested, flexible options for working during May are also available for the candidates who are selected.
