Job Description

Position Overview:

This position will require approximately 15 hours of work TOTAL in the semester. The student in this position will work together with a cohort of other Peer Leaders, the Study Away staff and the Student Programs Coordinator student worker. Peer Leaders will have the opportunity to offer their perspectives and experiences from their Macalester study away to support their peers, through leadership and facilitation of both study away returnee and study away pre-departure events. Peer Leaders will be encouraged to contribute ideas for new programs in addition to assisting with existing programs. Students in this role will gain leadership experience, facilitation skills and valuable professional experience within the field of international education. 
Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in facilitation of 4 Pre-Departure Orientation sessions (October 20-21, 2025)

  • Sign up to lead at least 2 additional events during the semester

  • Attend monthly meetings with cohort, Study Away Staff leader and Student Programs Coordinator at regular points throughout the semester for brainstorming, reflection and planning

Job Requirements

Qualifications and/or Special Skills Necessary to Perform the Duties of the Position:

  1. Must have participated in a study away program.

  2. Experience in community-based learning, programming, and/or service.

  3. Commitment to the mission of the IGC to encourage, promote and support rigorous learning, innovative scholarship and meaningful service.

  4. Strong communication skills; experience in facilitating group dialogue is preferred.

  5. Strong organizational skills.

  6. Interest in collaborating with a diverse group of students, staff, and faculty.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
