Job Description

The Campus Center Activities & Programming Assistants are focused on furthering the cultural, educational, social, and recreational needs of the Macalester student body while helping develop and foster community inside of the Campus Center. This team will help assist in planning and supporting 4-6 recurring activities per month within the Campus Center and assist with larger departmental programs such as Orientation, Welcome Week, Senior Week, etc. This team will be essential in ensuring programming and activities are led by students for students and that there are multiple types of activities in the Campus Center that cater to everyone. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Program Planning, Execution, and Assessment

    • Planning, implementing, executing and evaluating 4-6 monthly activities or programs led by team 

      • Programs include late-night programming such as “Campus Center After Dark,” “Break the Bubble,” “Cafe Mac@Nite,” and “The Loch, LIVE”

    • Develop assessment plan for Campus Center Activites and Programs listed above ensuring that feedback is gathered, while finding short and engaging ways for students to provide feedback

    • Help assist professional staff with concepts, planning, implementation, and execution of campus-wide events such as Orientation, Welcome Week, Class Nights, and Senior Week, while providing alternative “calm” programs for events such as Winter Ball and Spring Jam

    • Evaluate “Partners in Programming” applications and select top candidates to receive funding from Campus Center budget to get more student programming in the building 

    • Complete monthly tracking and reporting of things such as event information, supply inventory, and event attendance, audience feedback

    • Maintain regular and consistent communication with professional staff, student groups, performers/agents, artists, managers, and vendors

  • Promote and publicize events

    • Table for upcoming events and interact with students

    • Work with publicity and promotions coordinator to ensure all events are being advertised on campus in multiple forms in a  timely manner

      • Work with this role to execute new follower programs

  • Identify and develop concepts, goals, and strategies for Activites & Programs

    • Research best practices happening on campus, in communities, and at other institution to help inform programming choices and decisions

    • Develop concepts, goals, and distinct ideas for programs

    • Attend short forms of professional development for student programmers (NASPA, ACUI Programs, NACA, etc.)

  • Budget management and maintenance

  • Other duties as assigned


 
Job Requirements

Requirements: 

 

  • Current Macalester student meeting Student Employment Eligibility criteria 

  • Work-study required 

  • Willing to complete Title IX student employee training, serve as a mandated reporter while on shift, and pass a Title IX Office check requested by staff that will inquire about the student's disciplinary history. 

  • Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours per week during the academic year 

    • Work-study award splits are considered upon a case-by-case basis. Due to the level of training that requires staff in Activites & Programs to be successful on the job, students are not to split more than 30% of their work-study award with another department.

  • Physical demands may require lifting, pushing, pulling, moving and carrying items up to 50 pounds. Ability to use step ladder.

  • Awareness and understanding of lived experiences, intersecting oppressions, and individual privilege

  • Has strong interest in community building, event planning, and campus engagement

  • Attend scheduled shifts, staff meetings, and training retreats consistently and on-time

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively solve problems

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, willingness to actively work and run programs

  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are are taken care of before working on things such as homework or studying
