Job Description

The Promotions & Publicity Coordinator is focused on helping promote the various events, programs, and services available in the Campus Center. This role will help ensure that programs & services of the Campus Center feel supported in the promotion of their activities and that reliable, consistent, and timely updates are happening across department social media and other campus platforms. This role will actively produce branded content for the department that is consistent with the style guide and effectively ensures the necessary messaging is understood by the target audience. 

 
 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • 75% Content Creation, scheduling, and assessment

    • Manage Campus Center Instagram page, Open Pantry Instagram page, and other forms of social media 

      • TikTok, Facebook, etc. 

    • Meet regularly with professional staff, Campus Center Manager Supervisor, Information Desk Supervisor, Open Pantry staff, Outdoor Gear Services, and Activities & Programming Staff to assess needs for content

    • Develop content for various mediums including but not limited to ads, posters, brochures, web pages, social media, press releases, event calendars, and MacDaily publications to help promote things such as but not limited to services, developments, programs, features, etc. offered by department or collaborators 

    • Use the scheduling tool “Sked” to ensure all posts go up on platforms in a timely manner

    • Use graphic design programs such as Canva & Adobe Illustrator to create visual content

    • Follow and occasionally make edits to the style guide, handbook, and best practices to ensure all messaging is branded, consistent, and recognizable as Campus Center Programs and Services Department

    • Create recurring series of IG posts to publicize all events in Campus Center (not just ones sponsored by the department)

    • Develop monthly content calendars for social media and ensure implementation is consistently happening 

  • 20% Research & Assess the performance of promotions and future opportunities

    • Identify ways to gain more followers and understand engagement on all platforms, coordinate with Activities & Programming staff to execute 

    • Gather and analyze research including categories of engagement, traffic, and usage data and compile for professional staff to review monthly

    • Research best practices happening on campus, in communities, and at other institutions to help inform communication and publicity opportunities 

    • Research and attend short forms of professional development regarding communication skills and engagement relevant to the role

  • 5% Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Requirements: 

  • Current Macalester student meeting Student Employment Eligibility criteria 

  • Work-study required 

  • Willing to complete Title IX student employee training, serve as a mandated reporter while on shift, and pass a Title IX Office check requested by staff that will inquire about the student's disciplinary history. 

  • Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours per week during the academic year 

    • Work-study award splits are considered upon a case-by-case basis. Due to the level of training that requires staff in Activites & Programs to be successful on the job, students are not to split more than 30% of their work-study award with another department.

  • Physical demands may require lifting, pushing, pulling, moving and carrying items up to 15 pounds. 

  • Awareness and understanding of lived experiences, intersecting oppressions, and individual privilege 

Expectations: 

  • Possess a basic understanding and experience with social media (Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, etc.)

  • Basic understanding and knowledge of graphic design programs such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator

  • Effective visual and written communication skills; persuasive graphic and copywriting experience

  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail

  • Has strong interest in branding, student engagement, and communications

  • Attend scheduled shifts, staff meetings, and training retreats consistently and on-time

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively solve problems

  • Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are are taken care
