Job Description

Career Exploration is seeking a creative and organized student to work as a Communications Fellow for our department in the 2024-25 academic year! This position will create print and digital promotional material for our Employer Engagement and Internships events, as well as collaborate with other fellows to promote Career Exploration's services in events across campus. 

Core responsibilities:

  • Create publicity and communications items (print and digital) to promote and support Career Exploration’s employer and internship events.

  • Create social media content for the department.

  • Collaborate with other student fellows to plan engaging events across campus. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills acquired or developed on the job:

 

  • Graphic design, communications, marketing, and social media skills.

  • General professional administrative skills, including customer service, database management, office support, event/travel management, and interdepartmental communications.

  • Effective job seeking skills, including how to create a solid resume and cover letter, network, search for relevant jobs and internships, utilize alumni resources, etc.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with graphic design and/or social media platforms (e.g. Canva, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Hootsuite, Instagram, LinkedIn).

  • Preference for rising juniors or seniors with a strong understanding of the Macalester community. Rising sophomores with strong experience will be considered.

  • Availability to work a recurring weekly schedule during office hours (M-F 8:00-4:30) with some additional shifts for events outside of office hours.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to relay information to others clearly and accurately. Ability to adapt communication style to create a positive and welcoming environment for all members of our diverse community.

  • Attention to detail; able to follow processes consistently and maintain data accuracy.

  • Enthusiasm for working as part of a team and independently.

  • Passion for serving the Macalester community.
