Job Description

The Digital Services Assistant will assist in a variety of tasks and projects, with short-term and long-term timelines. These may include work related to the library website, to other digital collections, or digital publishing projects. Through additional tasks Digital Services Assistant may:

  • Work collaboratively in the creation of materials to help promote library resources and services.

  • Work on collaborative documents and spreadsheets.

  • Learn about accessibility and user experience as it applies to websites.

  • Edit digital content for accessibility

  • Learn/ apply digital literacy skills by learning to navigate unfamiliar web platforms and learning/ applying basic web coding skills.

  • Learn about library/ archival processes and digital collections platforms.

  • Capture and create content for digital collections platforms.

  • Learn about library digital collections.

May be asked to assist in other departments in the library as needed.

Job Requirements

The Digital Services Assistant candidate will:

  • have computer experience - both PC (Windows) and Macintosh preferred.

  • have experience with basic web editing, to apply when using content management systems such as WordPress and/or LibGuides.

  • be willing to learn new software skills, which may include working with a library digital management systems such as CONTENTdm and Digital Commons repository.

  • will possess strong interpersonal, communication, and creative problem solving skills.

  • will be able to follow directions and pay attention to detail.

  • will be able to work with minimal supervision, and be reliable for all assigned shifts.

 

The ideal candidate is:

  • a self-starter that is willing and able to continue through repetitive tasks.

  • motivated to apply current technology skills to learn to use new software/applications and tasks.

  • comfortable in asking for help, clarification, or training, as needed.

  • flexible and able to switch focus to different tasks, as needed.

 

For the most part, this position requires sitting the entire work shift while entering information and data into computer software.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid.
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
