Job Description

The Lealtad Suzuki Center for Social Justice (LSC) Social Media & Office Assistants will work with their direct supervisor and their specific team to assist with office and marketing duties that support the LSC’s work of social justice education and community building programs at Macalester.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the LSC Administrative Coordinator by performing front desk functions (reception coverage, answering calls, greeting visitors, etc)

  • Work in solidarity with individuals and communities holding marginalized social identities. 

  • Continuously explore and reflect on one's own social identities and biases to better support and educate others.

  • Manage the LSC social media account(s) (primarily Instagram and Linktree)

  • Assist with website updates and maintenance

  • Draft, edit, and publish LSC monthly newsletters using Mailchimp

  • Support with marketing efforts for LSC programs, including creating, proofreading, and submitting flyers

  • Collect program proposals, presentations, pictures and assessment for the LSC archives 

  • Update and maintain departmental resources and ensure resources are used appropriately

  • Help build positive relations within the LSC team and the larger Macalester community

  • Assist with space management including, but not limited to, triaging reservation requests and maintaining the kitchen space

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements
  • Work study is required for this position

  • Must be able to work 7-9 hours per week (we are unable to accommodate split awards)

  • Foundational knowledge of social justice education and social identities 

  • Commitment to personal reflection, growth and on-going learning of social justice issues and equity practices  

  • Able to listen and learn from others

  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Google calendar, Mailchimp, and Canva

  • Proficiency in social media storytelling and tools

  • Able to work well with others, resolve issues and conflict through respectful strategies 

  • Strong organizational/administrative skills

  • Able to multitask and manage ambiguity

  • Time management skills and ability to prioritize 

  • Able to accept and integrate constructive feedback

  • Able to work independently and in team setting 

  • Strong interpersonal and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Be in good standing with the college in relation to conduct issues; being involved in policy violations may affect your employment

Benefits

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
