International Studies as an academic department explores the dynamics of human encounter in the context of globalization. We take an interdisciplinary approach, drawing together the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and the physical sciences, in order to examine how our increasingly globalized world not only connects people, but also highlights, threatens, polices and protects difference - and to what consequence. As a Research Assistant, you will sit in the heart of the International Studies (I.S.) department regularly engaging with faculty, staff, and peers. This ideally creates space for dynamic conversation and support for the duration of your time at Macalester. Your role will include, but is not limited to the following: - Assist Faculty and Department Coordinator as needed
- Scanning, photocopying, and printing course materials
- Search for primary readings
- Collection of digital, or hard copies, of reading materials
- Research and identification of data for faculty and staff
- Proofreading and editing
- Planning and execution of department events
- Updating I.S. social media account(s)
- Maintain office space, classrooms, and bulletin boards
- Pick up mail/packages, library and DRC holds, etc.
- Ad hoc tasks as needed
