Job Description

The Creative Content Assistant is responsible for ideating, creating, and editing content for Macalester’s social media and promotional uses. They'll work collaboratively with other students and members of Macalester’s Communications and Marketing department, attending weekly status meetings and on-campus events as needed. This position reports to members of the Communications and Marketing Creative Services team.

Responsibilities

  • Film and edit videos and photos, as assigned, to be turned around by agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Specialist and Multimedia Producer in the content ideation process, with specific attention to what interests current and/or prospective students.
  • Assist with the production of analytics reports highlighting content performance.
  • Be responsive, show up on time, and meet deadlines.

Skills Acquired or Developed on the Job:

  • Opportunity to consistently work one-on-one with social media and multimedia professionals, gaining hands-on experience with content creation and strategy development, as well as content that is portfolio-ready.
  • Close collaboration with other student employees in the Communications and Marketing department, including weekly status meetings and monthly professional development lunches to help build a marketable set of skills.
  • Training and practice with industry-standard equipment, software, and techniques.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Understanding of and practical experience with a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Access to a device, like a personal smartphone, to use in gathering content—camera rental available for work that requires a professional look.
  • Ability to balance a hybrid work structure, potentially during non-traditional work hours.
  • Interest in learning about content creation and performance analytics, as well as a commitment to collaborating with a cohort of Communications and Marketing student employees.
  • A working knowledge of editing softwares like Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut is preferred but not necessary.

Sick and Safe Time

  • Student employees accrue sick and safe time at an accrual rate of one hour for every 30 hours paid. 
  • Sick and safe time is not paid out upon departure.
