Job Description

Media and Cultural Studies is looking to hire a student worker to take the lead on managing our department website and social media accounts. (Currently we have an Instagram account and we could potentially add more accounts.) We are looking for someone who can proactively research, write, and produce content. Your role would be to engage with faculty and students, figure out what exciting research and teaching is happening, and document those happenings for social media. You could interview majors or faculty, document class meetings, events, field trips, social gatherings, or take another creative approach that you think represents the unique culture of the Media and Cultural Studies department community. This position is somewhat journalistic—you’ll be asked to independently assess what is interesting and valuable about what is happening in MCST and try to represent that online through photos, videos, and text..

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • manage MCST social media accounts

  • produce content for social media — 15-20 posts per semester

  • aid department staff in promoting events and classes

  • manage and develop elements of the department website

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should:

  • be well versed in social media and its conventions

  • be a confident writer

  • be inquisitive and curious about what happens in MCST

  • have a good understanding of the Media and Cultural Studies faculty, curriculum, and general vibe.

Experience in media production (either photography or video) is a plus.
